It's official, Excell-ES Environmental Solutions have recently signed an exclusive UK & Ireland distribution agreement with Heger GmbH, a German manufacturer of plastic recycling equipment, including screw compactors, for lightweight foam material.
Heger compactors are specifically designed to reduce the size of expanded polystyrene foam and expanded polypropylene foam for easier storage and transportation.
Both industrial and retail sectors are being forced to review the way in which they manage packaging waste. This is being driven by government legislation, cost and an increased awareness of climate change as well as the importance of recycling. The Heger 50:1 compaction system greatly improves the current weight to area ratio this waste stream has suffered in the past. Its log format also lends itself to a palleted product readily loaded by fork lift truck for easy transportation.
The Heger Tiger and Lion compactors are widely used to manage foam waste in food processing plants, factories manufacturing electronics, warehouses storing white and brown goods and retail supermarkets thought out the country. These compactors can efficiently recycle Styrofoam® as the screw compactor can compress EPS/EPP foam up to 700kg/m3. The turnkey product is the Compaction Line.
Compared to a melt extrusion densifier, the auger compactor avoids thermal deterioration and the reduction of the material viscosity. Heger compactors have the advantage of reducing energy consumption while the machines are suitable for discontinuous operation and as the process uses no high source harmful odours are eliminated. The main process track is manufactured of stainless steel to retain the purest end product for maximum market return.
The way in which Heger compactors work is in essence simple: the operator places the foamed parts in the loading hopper of the machine. An efficient pre-breaker with two toothed rotating shaft reduces the shaped parts into pieces 20-50 mm in size, these pieces are forced by an auger into the pressure channel, thereby compacting them. The square block continuously discharged from the machine can be easily separated and loaded onto pallets.
Heger presses compact EPS scrap foam packaging blocks, EPS fish boxes, and EPS foam board to absolute minimum, up to 50 to 1 size reduction. With this significant volume reduction the compacted EPS takes up much less storage space and the extrusion form creates "logs" that facilitate easy transportation and handling. The waste management of foam in this way results in a significant cost saving when compared with conventional disposal and a higher recycle value.
